General

Never use abrasive cleaners such as Comet, or abrasive pads such as ScotchBrite or SOS.  Daily cleaning may be done with a damp cloth.  Soapy water, a mild detergent or a non-acidic household cleaner may be used, as required.  Do not slide rough and heavy items such as ceramic planter pots across the surface.  It is best to purchase adhesive cork/rubber/felt pads for the bottom of these items.

Gloss Finish

Light scratches and even cigarette burns may be removed using a liquid buffing agent.  These are also labelled as “scratch remover” and “oxidation remover.”  One such product is Meguiar’s Mirror Glaze 49 Oxidation Remover.  3M and Oscar’s also makes these products.  Heavier scratches and burns may be removed using 1500 grit wet sand paper followed by a buffing agent.  Use a wooden sanding block larger than the area you are repairing.  Use lots of water and sand in a circular motion.  Care must be taken not to wear a grove into the surface.  Riverstone Surfaces can repair deeper scratches or digs and dents by applying new compound to the surface.  Call the factory for more information.  Every couple of months, a gel gloss polish may be used.  This restores valuable oils to feed and nourish the finish, which creates a high gloss.  Call the factory for information on where to purchase and how to use this product.

Satin Finish

Scratches may be removed by gently rubbing the area with gray ultrafine ScotchBrite #7448, using a circular motion and lots of soapy water.  It is best to wrap the ScotchBrite in a small wooden block to avoid wearing a grove in the surface of your countertop.  Even better is to apply the ScotchBrite with a random orbital sander, set on low.  Try a test area first.  Only rub long enough to remove the scratch.  Over sanding will eventually cause you to wear through the protective gel coat layer of the countertop.  Trade Secret counter polish will remove water rings or grease marks.  Call the factory for information on where to purchase and how to use this product.

Additional Notes

Many of the buffing agents and polishes may leave residual solvents on the surface of your product.  In the case where food may come into contact with your Riverstone Surfaces product, it should be thoroughly cleaned with soapy water.

Riverstone Surfaces uses an electric polisher with a wool buffing pad to obtain a gloss finish.  Buffing compound is applied to the wool pad.  Gray ScotchBrite #7448 and soapy water is used to obtain the satin finish.

For questions regarding the care of your product, contact Sheldon at the factory.  Riverstone Surfaces offers a polishing service to periodically restore the gloss to your product.
